Blue Catfish
Appearance: Blue Catfish are charactarized by a deep body and blueish-silver skin. In many ways, they look similar to Channel Catfish, but lack the spots and elongated body of the Channel Cat.

Size: Blue Catfish are the largest of Texas' catfish clan. Fish in the 20 to 30 pound range are common catches on rod and reel, with fish exceeding 50 pounds not out of the question. Triple-digit fish do live in Texas waters, but are usually caught on set lines.

Where it's found: Blue Catfish prefer rivers and streams with flowing water, hard bottoms and decent clarity.

What it eats: Blue Catfish eat pretty much everything they can catch, primarily crawfish and panfish.

Top lures & baits: Live baits such as crawfish and perch are good choices. Cut shad and prepared baits also work well.

How it tastes: Blue Catfish offer very good fillets.

Texas Bag & Size Limits: 25 fish bag/12 inch minimum length (*NOTE: Many water bodies have tighter limits than the statewide limits. Be sure to check for any local limits before retaining fish.)
