Spanish Mackerel
Appearance: Very similar to juvenile King Mackerel, but Spanish Mackerel have a deeper body and sport bright yellow spots.

Size: Spanish Mackerel average 1 to 3 pounds, although 5 pound fish are common at times.

Where it's found: During the summer months, Spanish Mackerel are found within casting distance of beaches and jetties, as well as in Gulf passes in some southern bays.

What it eats: Spanish Mackerel primarily eat small baitfish, such as glass minnows and sardines, but also eat shrimp.

Top lures & baits: Small, brightly-colored jigs and spoons work well, as do live shrimp and small baitfish.

How it tastes: Strong and oily, most people who eat Spanish Mackerel smoke it, though they are decent when fried or broiled as well.
