Yellow Catfish
Appearance: Yellow Catfish, also known as Flatheads or Shovelheads, are easily recognized by their wide, flat head and their broad, square tail, not to mention their yellowish-brown skin color.
Size: Second only to Blue Catfish in sheer size, Yellow Catfish regularly top 50 pounds. Fish over 100 pounds are rare, but do swim in Texas waters.
Where it's found: Yellow Catfish are most commonly found in large rivers and major reservoirs.
What it eats: Although they will scavange from time to time, Yellow Catfish prefer live prey, particularly panfish and crawfish.
Top lures & baits: Bluegill, goldfish and live crawfish top the list of baits for both rod and reel fishermen and set liners. Cut baits and prepared baits will produce fish at times.
How it tastes: One of the best tasting fish in Texas.
